Feedback from clients

Hi, I'm Natalie

Family photographer for every age, stage and personality

I've spent more than 10 years photographing families across Coquitlam, Port Moody, Port Coquitlam and the rest of Greater Vancouver, and every family brings its own rhythm. Some children need time to warm up; others arrive ready to explore and lead the way. You don't need to worry about perfect behaviour or getting everyone to smile at once - that's my job.

After more than 1,000 photo sessions, I know how to give just enough direction for everyone to feel comfortable without making it stiff. I use movement, simple prompts and play to create natural moments, and make sure we also get the family portraits you'll want to frame.

Whether you're bringing little ones, teenagers, grandparents, or the whole extended family together for a reunion or a birthday, I'll make the session feel calm, enjoyable and true to the people you love.

More About Natalie

Outdoors or in a studio?

We'll choose by your children's ages, the season and the feeling you want - these are the spots I come back to most when photographing around Coquitlam and the Tri-Cities.

OutdoorsA few favourite spots around the Tri-Cities

  • Professional family photography in a sunny field, children running under a blanket held up by their parents

    Colony Farm Park

    Coquitlam

Open fields, long grasses and uninterrupted golden-hour light - room for little ones to run.

  • Portrait and family photography, father lifting his toddler daughter high in the air

    Mundy Park

    Coquitlam

Tall cedars and forest trails - shade on bright days and that deep-green Pacific Northwest feel.

  • Professional family portrait photography, a couple stands in tall grass holding a toddler with a marsh and cloudy mountains behind

    Pitt River Dike

    Pitt Meadows

Some of the closest mountain views of any spot I use. No washrooms on site - the nearest are about five minutes away at Grant Narrows.

  • Fall family photoshoot in golden light, a family of four sits on a blanket in a carpet of red autumn leaves

    Deer Lake Park

    Burnaby

Gardens, lawns and lake views, with a tree-lined path that's gorgeous in fall colour.

In a studioStudios I book near Coquitlam

  • Family indoor photoshoot in a bright studio, parents laughing with their two boys

    LaBella Studio

    Port Coquitlam

Textured walls, large windows and an infinity wall.

  • Photography studio session, couple kissing on a white bed between draped curtains in a studio

    ZenFrame Studio

    Port Coquitlam

Fabric curtains, screens and paper backdrops.

  • Indoor family photoshoot on a cream sofa in a bright studio, three generations sitting together

    Peach Pitt Studio

    Pitt Meadows

Styled interiors, paper backdrops and several set-ups in one space.

  • Or another studio you have in mind

Somewhere else in mind? Anywhere in Greater Vancouver works - just tell me where.

Why book family photos now?

You don't need to wait for a big milestone. Often the most meaningful time for family photos is simply now - while your children still reach for your hand and laugh with their whole bodies.

To remember the season you're in

Family life changes quietly. Favourite toys disappear, little hands grow, and today's routines become tomorrow's memories. A family session keeps this chapter as it really feels - the connection, the energy and the small in-between moments.

Your photos don't need a perfectly planned occasion. They can celebrate slow weekend mornings, siblings who make each other laugh, or a favourite trail near home.

To bring everyone into the picture

In many families one person is always behind the camera. Your phone may be full of your children, but very few photos show you there with them.

A family session makes room for everyone - including grandparents, grown children and relatives who aren't often together. Extended-family sessions and small celebrations, from a birthday to a family reunion, are always welcome.

To celebrate a milestone - or simply because

Families book to welcome a new baby, mark a birthday or anniversary, or photograph several generations together. Others book because the kids have changed since last time.

Around the holidays, my Christmas mini sessions are a quick, easy way to get a few new family photos - see Christmas minis for dates and location.

Photo session FAQs

Do you offer family sessions throughout Greater Vancouver?

Yes. I'm based in Coquitlam and photograph families anywhere in Greater Vancouver. Around the Tri-Cities, I love the open fields at Colony Farm and the forest trails of Mundy Park, and Deer Lake in Burnaby and the Pitt River Dike are close by too. A $20 travel fee applies only to West Vancouver, Richmond, UBC and Spanish Banks.

Can you help us choose a location that suits our family?

Of course. Tell me a little about your family - your children's ages, how far they're happy to walk and the feeling you'd love in your photos - and I'll suggest a few settings that fit the season and the time of day. If you'd rather be indoors, I can book a studio; studio rental is additional and starts at $50 per hour.

What should we wear, and how can we coordinate without matching?

Choose two or three colours that sit well together, then mix textures and patterns within them rather than dressing everyone alike. You'll receive my family styling guides and inspiration boards, and you're welcome to borrow selected pieces from my client closet at no extra cost. The Family Classic allows up to two outfits, and the Family Story up to three.

Can we include grandparents and extended family?

Absolutely - these are often the photos families treasure most. Immediate-family sessions are included in the package price; extended-family sessions cover up to six people, with $25 for each extra person. Tell me your group size when you get in touch, so we plan enough time for every grouping.

What's the best time of day for our family photos?

Outdoors, the hour or two before sunset gives the softest, warmest light, and early mornings are lovely too. With little ones, though, the best time is often the one that fits their routine - a happy, well-rested toddler matters more than perfect light. We'll find a time that works for both.

What if our children are shy, restless, or don't want to participate?

That's completely normal, and you don't need to worry. Children don't have to sit still or smile on command - I use simple prompts, movement and play to help them relax, and follow their energy rather than fighting it. Some of the most loved photos come from the moments in between.

Can we take different group combinations as well as individual portraits?

Yes. We'll plan a short list before the day - the whole family, each parent with the children, siblings together and a few individual portraits - so nothing is missed. The Family Story's extra half hour gives more room for groupings, especially with a bigger family.

When will our photos be ready, and how will we receive them?

Your edited photographs are ready within 12 business days, delivered in a private online gallery with files for printing and sharing. The gallery stays open for one month, so download your favourites early. All images listed in your package are included - no separate purchase required.
