Coquitlam Proposal Photographer

You'll only ask once - let's make sure you can see it again

Give yourselves more than a story to tell. Keep the look on their face, the happy tears, and the excitement of those first moments together. Based in Coquitlam, I help plan and discreetly photograph surprise proposals throughout Greater Vancouver.

  • Coquitlam & Tri-Cities
  • Surprise proposals, planned discreetly
  • 10+ years experience
  • Fully insured & licensed
  • Over 1,000+ sessions captured
  • Limited dates available
  • A plan you can relax into

We'll work out the spot, the light, the crowds and the timing in advance, so on the day you only have to think about the question.

  • Out of sight until it matters

I'll be positioned before you arrive and stay unnoticed, so the surprise holds and your partner's reaction is completely their own.

  • More than a single frame

The approach, the question, the yes and the celebration after - and a few portraits of the two of you, if you'd like them.

The Experience

Your proposal, start to finish

  1. Share the idea

Tell me where you're thinking of asking, roughly when, and how you picture it. It's fine if it's only a feeling so far.

    Get in touch

    Step 1

  2. Plan it together

We'll pick the spot and the time for soft light and fewer people, and agree where I'll be positioned so nothing gives the surprise away.

    Step 2

  3. Ask, then celebrate

I'll photograph the proposal and the first minutes after, then deliver your edited photos in a private online gallery.

    Step 3

Feedback from clients

Hi, I'm Natalie

Proposal photographer, ready for the moment you ask

Surprise proposals are especially fun for me. Around Coquitlam and the Tri-Cities, I love helping plan the spot, the timing and the small details, quietly waiting for everything to unfold, and then watching the emotion take over.

No two reactions are ever the same, and the excitement right after the yes creates photographs that simply can't be recreated. After more than 10 years and 1,000 sessions, I know how to stay unnoticed until then - and how to keep the minutes after it relaxed and natural.

More About Natalie

A few favourite spots to propose

A few favourites near the Tri-Cities, chosen for the light, a little privacy and the view. After the yes, many couples come back to them for their wedding photography in Coquitlam.

  • Creative engagement photos by the water at sunset, couple sitting on driftwood

    Rocky Point Park

    Port Moody

The pier and the shoreline at sunset - a natural end to an evening walk.

  • Classic engagement photos beneath cloud-covered mountains, a couple embraces while standing in shallow lake water

    Alouette Lake

    Maple Ridge

Clear water under forested mountains. Summer weekends get busy, so we'll time it for quiet.

  • Outdoor winter engagement photos, a couple embraces on a pebble beach on a snowy day with a marker light in the distance

    Barnet Marine Park

    Burnaby

A pebble beach and old pier posts on the water - lovely even on a grey or snowy day.

  • Golden hour engagement photos at sunset below the mountains, couple embracing in golden grass

    Minnekhada Park

    Coquitlam

Marshland boardwalks and rocky knolls with wide, wild views - for an adventurous ask.

Somewhere else in mind? Anywhere in Greater Vancouver works - just tell me where.

Why photograph your proposal?

It's over in moments, and you'll be too nervous to notice half of it. A photographer who knows the plan sees everything you can't.

To see the moment from the outside

You'll remember how it felt. The photographs show how it looked - their face as they realized, your hands, the place around you.

Because the timing and my position are planned, you can forget about the camera completely.

To keep a reaction that can't happen twice

A surprise only happens once. The seconds after the question are some of the most honest photographs a couple will ever have.

I'll be ready for them, and for the laughter, tears and phone calls that follow.

To begin the story you'll tell for years

Proposal photos often find their way onto engagement announcements, invitations and wedding websites.

If you'd like, a short engagement session can follow straight away, while you're both still glowing.

Photo session FAQs

Can you help me choose a proposal location?

Yes - it's one of my favourite parts of planning. We'll look for somewhere that means something to the two of you, with good light and a little privacy. Around Coquitlam and the Tri-Cities, I love Minnekhada Park and Rocky Point in Port Moody; Barnet Marine Park in Burnaby and Alouette Lake in Maple Ridge are close by too.

How do we plan the proposal without my partner finding out?

We'll do it all by message, email or a quick call, whenever suits you. I'll help you choose the spot, the time and a simple reason to be there, so the day feels completely ordinary to your partner until the moment you ask.

How will I recognize you, and how will you know when I'm about to propose?

Before the day, we'll agree exactly where I'll be, what I'll look like and a small signal - touching your hair, or taking your partner's hand. I'll be in place before you arrive, so you'll know where to look without giving anything away.

What's the best time of day for proposal photos?

The hour before sunset is hard to beat: soft, warm light that flatters everyone and makes the setting glow. Early mornings work beautifully too, with gentle light and far fewer people around. We'll choose the time around your location and the season.

What happens if it rains or our chosen location is too busy?

I watch the forecast closely, and we'll agree a backup before the day - another date, or a spot with some shelter. If the place is busier than expected, I'll have a quieter corner nearby in mind, and a simple way to let you know.

Can you photograph a proposal at a restaurant, hotel, or private venue?

Yes. Indoor proposals can be lovely - a favourite restaurant, a hotel suite with a view, a family home. We'll check with the venue ahead of time about where I can stand and any photography rules, so everything is ready when you arrive.

Can we take engagement portraits together after the proposal?

Yes - both packages include a session together straight after the yes, while the excitement is still fresh. Proposal Signature gives you up to an hour and a half in all, with a change of outfit and a second nearby spot. For a full session later, see my couples and engagement photography.

How far in advance should I book, and can you accommodate a last-minute proposal?

A few weeks ahead gives us time to plan without rushing, and sunset dates in spring and summer go first. If your plans came together quickly, please still ask - if I'm free, I'd be glad to help, even at short notice.
