The Elopement Experience

Your elopement, start to finish

  1. Share your plans

Tell me your date or season, who'll be there, and the kind of setting you have in mind - a lake, a forest, the sea, or somewhere personal.

    Get in touch

    Step 1

  2. Shape the day together

We'll choose the spot and the light, plan the order of the ceremony and portraits, and check the practical details - parking, the walk in, any permit the spot needs.

    Step 2

  3. Be there, then see it again

I'll photograph the day as it unfolds, then deliver your carefully edited, print-ready images in a private online gallery.

    Step 3

Feedback from clients

Hi, I'm Natalie

Elopement photographer drawn to quiet, honest moments

When a wedding is small, every face in the photographs matters. There's time to notice the details that a big day hurries past - hands that won't stay still before the vows, a quiet word from a parent, the laugh that comes once the nerves are gone.

Whether you're marrying in Coquitlam, elsewhere in the Tri-Cities or farther afield, I'll help you plan the practical parts and keep the direction light, so the photos feel like the two of you. After more than ten years and over 1,000 photo sessions, I know how to give a short day room to breathe.

More About Natalie

A few favourite spots for a small ceremony

A few favourites near the Tri-Cities - a lakeshore, a forest clearing or the water at sunset - the same places I love for wedding photography in Coquitlam.

  • Bride photoshoot across the grass, bride and groom kissing under a tree, her lace train spread

    Buntzen Lake

    Anmore

Still water and forested shorelines - calm and green at golden hour.

  • Wedding photography in Vancouver, BC, newlyweds riding a golf cart across a green field toward the mountains

    Belcarra Regional Park

    Belcarra

Forest meeting ocean, quiet coves and driftwood shorelines.

  • Lifestyle wedding photography, a couple stands barefoot and smiling on a sandy lakeshore with forested mountains behind

    Alouette Lake

    Maple Ridge

A sandy lakeshore under forested mountains. Summer parking may need a free day-use pass.

  • Bride and groom kissing on a sandy beach at sunset, by Vancouver elopement photographer Natalie Varro

    Rocky Point Park

    Port Moody

The pier and the shoreline in warm evening light, as the day winds down.

Somewhere else in mind? Anywhere in Greater Vancouver works - just tell me where.

Why choose an elopement?

Fewer guests doesn't mean less of a wedding. It means more time with the people who are there, and a day shaped entirely around what matters to the two of you.

Time with each other, not a timeline

Without a long schedule to keep, the day can move at your pace - a walk after the vows, a toast with your closest people, a few quiet minutes alone.

I'll keep the structure light, so the photographs follow the day rather than the other way round.

A setting with meaning

A small ceremony can happen where a large one can't: by a lake, among the cedars, on a stretch of shore you love.

We'll plan around the light and the walk, so the place works for everyone who's there.

Photographs of everything, not just the vows

The getting ready, the first look, the reactions, the portraits afterwards - a short day still has a full story.

Every image is selected and edited with care, so the gallery feels as considered as the day itself.

Photo session FAQs

What's included in your elopement photography packages?

Both collections include consecutive coverage, edited and retouched images, print-ready high-resolution and web-ready files, and a private online gallery. The Ceremony Collection gives you two hours and at least 120 images; the Essentials Collection gives you five hours, at least 250 images and a sneak-peek gallery within a week.

How many hours of photography do we need for our elopement?

Two hours is usually enough for the ceremony, a few family photos and an unhurried portrait session. If you'd also like getting ready, a second location or a dinner afterwards, five hours gives the day room to breathe. Extra time can be added at $500 per hour, with about 50 more edited images for each hour.

Do you photograph ceremonies with just the two of us, as well as small weddings with guests?

Yes, both. Some couples say their vows with only an officiant and two witnesses; others invite a few dozen of their closest people. Either way, I'll photograph the ceremony, the people who came and plenty of time for just the two of you. If your guest list keeps growing, my wedding photography collections cover longer days.

Can you recommend beautiful elopement locations in Coquitlam and Greater Vancouver?

Yes - I'm happy to suggest spots that suit the season, your guest count and the feeling you want. Around Coquitlam and the Tri-Cities, I love the still water at Buntzen Lake, the coves at Belcarra and the shoreline at Rocky Point in Port Moody; a little farther out, Alouette Lake in Maple Ridge is a favourite. Any travel, permit, parking or location fees are confirmed in your quote before you book.

Can we book you for a courthouse, city hall, or backyard ceremony?

Absolutely. A short civil ceremony or a ceremony at home can be just as meaningful as any venue, and the Ceremony Collection's two hours fit it well. Smaller rooms sometimes have their own rules about where a photographer can stand, so we'll check them ahead of time - and we can step outside afterwards for portraits nearby.

Can you help us plan the timing of our ceremony and portraits?

Yes. Before the day, we'll work out when to start so your portraits fall in the softest light, how long to leave for family photos, and how to get between places without rushing. I'll also help you put together a short family-photo list, so on the day you can simply be there.

Can we visit more than one location for our portraits?

Yes, as long as the time allows. Coverage runs consecutively, so travel between places is part of your hours: a ceremony spot and one nearby portrait location usually fit into two hours, and five hours leave room for a drive somewhere farther. Any parking or location fees are confirmed in your quote.

When will we receive sneak peeks and our full gallery?

With the Essentials Collection, you'll get a sneak-peek gallery within a week. Your complete gallery follows in a private online gallery, with print-ready high-resolution and web-ready files; the exact delivery timeframe is written into your agreement before you book.

How do we reserve our date, and what deposit is required?

Send me your date and a little about your plans. After a short conversation, I'll confirm the coverage and send a personalized quote. Your date is reserved once the agreement is signed and a small deposit is paid; when the balance is due is set out in the agreement.
